Cibus 2021 Specialty Food Trade Event Was A Success Beyond Expectations

(Parma, 3 September 2021) - “Cibus is a winning bet”, said Giancarlo Giorgetti, Minister of Economic Development, visiting the Cibus stands in Parma today. “When it was decided to hold this fair four months ago, questions arose. As a government political authority we must thank all those who agree to make these bets and allow the country to win them ”.

And the numbers of the twentieth edition of Cibus speak for themselves: two thousand exhibiting companies, almost 40 thousand visitors, of which 2 thousand from abroad.

"The main international operators who were unable to come have sent their sourcers and their brokers - said Antonio Cellie, CEO of Fiere di Parma - in order not to miss the opportunity to discover the many innovations present at the fair. Because Cibus is exactly this: the innovation capacity of our agri-food sector that meets a growing worldwide demand for authentic Italian ”.

Stakeholder satisfaction was underlined by Gino Gandolfi, President of Fiere di Parma: “This edition of Cibus has fully achieved the objectives it set for itself. The many certificates of appreciation from the exhibiting companies, the Associations belonging to Federalimentare and the Protection Consortia, allow me to say that CIBUS 2021 is a challenge won by the agri-food community. I also want to emphasize the attention of the political world, with the participation of three ministers and the main players in the supply chain: agriculture, industry, large retailers and the world of Horeca. In the wake of this success, we are already working on a record edition of Cibus, which will be held in Parma on May 3, 2022 ”.

During the fourth and final day of Cibus, the World Food Research and Innovation Forum was held which examined the impact on businesses of the various climatic, digital and social transitions. "Consumers are very attentive to these issues - said Minister Giorgetti speaking at the conference - but we must also be realistic and responsible in defending national interests, aware that the decisions we make have a reflection on the real life of our companies".

The following also spoke at World Food Research (promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region, by the Universities of Bologna, Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Ferrara, Università Cattolica and others): Erika Andreeta, Partner PwC Italy: "If we really want to reap the benefits of financial resources made available by the institutions and to continue to remain competitive in the global scenario, it is essential to invest profitably in training, with the implementation of projects aimed at developing skills for the conscious use of new technologies by professionals ".

On the last day of Cibus di, the conference "Innovate or decrease" was also held, organized by the University of Parma and Le Village by CA Parma. The University has brought to Cibus new protagonists of the sector in the academic field with 16 research groups that have made themselves available for a one-to-one meeting program. On the subject of innovation, SMILE (Smart Manufacturing Innovation Lean Excellence center) was also present at CIBUS, the Digital Innovation Hub born in Parma to allow technology transfer between universities and industry, support SMEs in the digitization of operational processes and implementation of innovative and lean methodologies, in line with Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

In the area dedicated to the territorial START-UPS of Le Village by CA there were two innovative economic realities born in the university context, in the food sector: Future Cooking Lab, spinoff of the Gastronomic Physics Laboratory of the University of Parma founded by Davide Cassi, father of molecular cuisine, born with the "mission" of gastronomic innovation, and DNAPhone, an innovative SME that designs, develops and markets technological solutions for the measurement of chemical parameters through the use of portable optical devices, integrated with smart and mobile technologies .
